Cybereason Announces New Partnership With Intel

Cybereason has entered into a new partnership with Intel. The two companies announced their combined plan to adopt and release new Intel Hardware Shield protections, which will further defend businesses from Ransomware attacks. Cybereason is a leader in future-ready attack protection, who aims to end cyber-attacks in an instant while Intel is known for being the world’s largest semiconductor chip manufacturer. The collaboration combines Cybereason’s multi-layered protection with Intel’s Threat Detection Technology, protecting customers from ransomware while also improving a business’s overall security performance.

Over the past year we have witnessed the dangers of Ransomware, from attacks on the healthcare industry to the public sector and companies across industries. Ransomware is evolving, and finding new ways of bypassing traditional anti-malware defences, highlighting enterprises’ dire need of finding new ways to protect themselves from costly attacks, system downtime, and reputational damage. In other words, the collaboration couldn’t come at a better time.

Following the announcement, Lior Div, CEO and Co-Founder at Cybereason stated: “This collaboration with Intel to add CPU based threat detection bolsters our long history and industry-leading capabilities in detecting and eradicating ransomware. The combination of best-of-class hardware, software, and security know-how provides defenders with full-stack visibility critical to ending the era of double extortion that is currently costing organizations hundreds of millions each year.”

Ransomware’s success comes from a technique called “double extortion”. This method allows cybercriminals to not only encrypt a victim’s data but also exfiltrate it with the threat of making it public if the ransom is left unpaid. Normally an organisation would have a backed-up version of their data, which they could restore in an event of a ransomware attack. Double extortion, however, undermines the usual backup strategy that these organisations rely on.

The new Ransomware Protection will be able to detect and block ransomware attacks before the data can even be encrypted or exfiltrated. Both companies are working towards creating a way to reverse the attacker’s advantage and end cyber-attacks completely.

“Ransomware was a top security threat in 2020, software alone is not enough to protect against ongoing threats. Our new 11th Gen Core vPro mobile platform provides the industry’s first silicon enabled threat detection capability, delivering the much needed hardware based protection against these types of attacks. Together with Cybereason’s multi-layered      protection, businesses will have full-stack visibility from CPU telemetry to help prevent ransomware from evading traditional signature-based defenses.” said Stephanie Hallford, Client Computing Group Vice President and General Manager of Business Client Platforms at Intel.

On top of this, the partnership plans on releasing four more services alongside the Ransomware Protection. These are CPU Threat detection and Full-Stack Visibility, along with unleashing Machine Learning for Better Security and accelerating Endpoint Prevention, Detection and Response. This means Enterprises can bolster the performance of their security agent processing for better user experience.

Cybereason and Intel plan to announce market availability for these services/products during the first half of 2021.
